Don’t put a Subaru Battery in a Toyota 4Runner | Denver Auto Repair

Hey there folks. I’m Saul from Saul’s Autotek and today I’m here in front of this 2006 Toyota 4Runner.

Now, this vehicle came in and the owner had many concerns. We got a laundry list of problems the vehicle was having. The center console would turn on and off. The radio would work sometimes. The windows would only go up when they felt like it. The headlights would get dim when they hit bumps. All kinds of electrical gremlins. The owner was very concerned. There was a serious problem with the vehicle. They’d taken it to two other shops before bringing it to us and they hadn’t had good results. They brought it to us and we will always start with the very basics because we want to make sure somebody hasn’t overlooked something.

In the case of this vehicle, when it came in, it had this battery installed in it. What do we notice about this battery? It says Subaru on the front of it. Well, that Subaru battery did not have the same cranking power as the factory Toyota battery. Now we partner with Deka East Penn as the manufacturer of aftermarket batteries here at Saul’s.

Being in Colorado, we see extreme heating and cooling cycles which shorten the life of your battery. Most batteries are built with a three- to five-year warranty from the manufacturer. Most in Colorado only offer a three-year coverage because of the extreme temperature fluctuations we see.

While the owner of this vehicle had spent thousands of dollars at other facilities and didn’t get the result that they desired and all the vehicle needed was, in fact, a battery. So even the simple services that you might overlook or say, “I can knock that out myself, I’ll take care of that on my own, or I’ll let the guy at the parts counter at the local auto parts store throw that battery in for me,” exercise caution. It only costs a few dollars more to have a professional ASE-certified mechanic install your battery for you, reprogram the electronics in your vehicle afterward to make sure that they operate appropriately with modern vehicle systems and keep you on the road.

We’ve had vehicles come in that owners swap their battery and the windows won’t go up and down. Or they put a different battery in the vehicle and now the power seats don’t slide forward and back. Small things that need to be reset and reprogrammed with a battery replacement. Here at Saul’s Autotek, we have state-of-the-art equipment so that we can actually maintain the battery while it’s out of the vehicle and keep electricity applied to the vehicle. We don’t even have to reprogram it the majority of the time. We can do it on the fly and get you rolling in just a few minutes.

At the same time, if the vehicle’s battery is dead, needs a replacement and is drained completely out, we can get it replaced and get you programmed and get you back out on the road for just a few dollars more than the cost of the battery itself and deliver that peace of mind to you that it’s going to work right the first.

Come and see us here at Saul’s Autotek for all your battery needs.
